Well, it has been a little over a year since Mally and I decided to sell our house and much of our possessions in order to hit the road pulling an RV across the country. We bought a Winnebago Mini-Winnie and a RAM 2500 diesel and set out . I've written very little as Mally has been the photographer and documenter of our journey. I might add I believe she did an incredible job of it.
We stayed in 51 parks (to date) in 19 states. We made it as far as to drive into California for about 3 miles and then back out. We've been on a 10 mile hike in Panacea, Florida that was supposed to be 3 miles, but due to my expert woodsman navigational skills, we got lost. We ended up following the hard road back to our trail head and then went back home. I almost had to get Mally to help me get into the truck...lol. We hiked in several places and up to a height of 10,500 feet. If you weren't aware, there is no oxygen that high. At least that's what my lungs keep screaming. Where is the O2?
We endured rain for a week in Nachez Trace with the temp in the 30-40's accompanied by Covid for both of us. Good times...
We set up camp near Carlsbad along with a rat snake about 6 ft long followed by a 30 minute sand storm. We had continually high winds in Waco, Texas, but enjoyed Chip and JoAnne Gaines Magnolia Market at the Silos. Really good cupcakes.
Seminole Canyon gave us a look at the petroglyphs and the Rio Grand River (which we saw several times). There were high and narrow bridges we crossed. Mally wasn't very sure about crossing them and being transparent, I was a little un-nerved by them as well.
Mally did a wonderful job of documenting our trip with fantastic pictures and narratives. I could not begin to rehearse all the things we discovered on this trip.
We came back to Amherst in November to get my annual cancer scans. Praise the Lord, all scans and tests were negative. We also packed in the eye doctor, the dentist, and the dermatologist into that one week. A special thanks to Michael and Ruth for letting us stay on their property. It was incredible.
We then went down to see our family in Durham and had the pleasure of having two of our grand-kids spend 5 nights with us in the camper. It was a fun time along with our Thanksgiving meal. It had been a year since we had seen them and although a year sounds like a long time, it flew past us in the blink of an eye. We are now working our way to Florida to spend Christmas with the rest of our family and grand-kids. We are so excited to seem them.
For all that I enjoyed on this year-long journey, it would have been an excruciatingly futile experience if it hadn't been for Mally; her company, support, provisions and love. She has done 100% of the travel registrations which is no small feat. She has kept the inside of the camper organized (big surprise), clean and homey. Mally has fallen in love with cross-stitching and I might add has become very skilled at it. She has decorated our camper for Thanksgiving and now Christmas with her art. Mally continues to prove to be one of the most self-less people I know and I cold not be more blessed than having her as my wife, mate, friend, confidant, and love. If it hadn't been for the joy I have experienced on this trip with Mally's company, I would not go out again. With that being said, having been given a green light pertaining to my cancer, Mally and I are headed out again for another year of adventure Lord willing. I plan to do a better job of keeping you up to date with our experiences.
Until my next note, I pray the Lord blesses you beyond measure and I encourage you to take in the things around you that happen every day and recognize how God is working in your life.
Wear Jesus Well
Blessings, Steve Harman
